We all have those runs that completely fall apart for one reason or another. The frustrating thing is not that they happen; it’s that we rarely know why. Yesterday was supposed to be a moderate to easy 4 miles; only I ended up walking home from city hall which is just a little less than a mile from my house.
I wasn’t tired, or sore, or out of breath. My legs just wouldn’t respond that well. It felt almost identical to the wall most marathoners hit around the 18-20 mile mark. It seems strange considering I am in the meat of my marathon training and that I can comfortably finish much more than that but, truth is, these things just happen.
So this is a short post to remind you we all have runs, and bad days (even bad weeks), and sometimes things just fall apart. The important thing is that we put them immediately behind us and lace up again the next day.

I have to keep this in mind, because some days, I feel amazing (even though I’m not running that much or that far), and then other days, every step is a chore.
Good to hear from someone so experienced! Was just talking about this with my wife. She was frustrated by having a harder time today with the same distance she had breezed through two days ago! I told her that we cannot expect our bodies that were not doing these things for almost four decades to always be able to do something we have been doing for less than a year!
Yep, absolutely everyone, from begginner to elite has bad days. Just remember that one bad run does not a bad runner make. Besides, without the odd bad day the simply brilliant days wouldnt shine nearly half so brightly … and all of us have another one of them in our future if we just keep running.
