Xtreme Cooling Towel

by host on August 1, 2011

107.  That’s the forecast for today.  The good news is it’s not the hottest day of the week because we are supposed to hit 110 later.

I like fall marathons; October being my favorite running month of the year.  Unfortunately this means training through a Texas summer; so any piece of equipment or gear that makes a claim of relief is worth a try.

The manufacturers of the Xtreme Cooling Towel recently sent some of their gear my way to check out.  The claim is that the technology in the fabric keeps the towel 20 degrees cooler than the ambient air temperature.  You activate the towel simply by wetting it down.  Once dry another application of water reactivates the fabric and keeps the process going.

I was pretty pumped to give this thing a try and had originally thought it would make a great do-rag for running.  The up and downside is it works very well, but not as a do-rag.  It’s a bit too thick to effectively use as a head wrap so I have just been folding mine up and carrying it with me in my Camelbak.

I usually stop at various times to wring out my clothes and hat (yes – wring out), and a wipe down with this towel is now apart of that routine.  It’s also become my latest lawn mowing accessory, look for it on the run way next fall at the annual grass cutting fashion show.  I like the fact it blocks the sun and it does feel noticeably cooler than the surrounding air – as for 20 degrees I haven’t put a thermometer to it yet but I can certainly buy that claim.

It is worlds better than a terry cloth towel, which is what I have been using and at $15 you can’t go wrong.

I have a few of these to give out so if you want one shoot me an email or leave me a comment and I’ll mail you one out.

I was sent these towels to review with no compensation or request for a positive write up.

I’m training for my Oct. marathon right now too. While I’m not in TX, I am in hot/humid South Dakota. I would love to try out one of these towels to see what kind of difference it made.

Thanks for sending me mine! I haven’t really used it yet, but it definitely seems “cool.” I want a hat made out of this material!

My kids have absconded with the one you sent me and use it quite regularly in their tri training routine already. Thanks again!

If you still have any of these, I live in South Florida and run outside. I’d love to try – been looking for something like this. Email me back if you have any more and I’ll give you my address. If these work, they should make headbands :)

I’m intrigued. Curious about other people’s experience.
